Getting started

What do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Your steps come from Apple Health, so it works with whatever counts your steps there: the iPhone itself, or an Apple Watch.

My steps don't move the buddy.

  • Open the Health app, tap your picture, then Apps > WalkBuddy, and turn on Steps.
  • For steps to count while WalkBuddy is open, allow Motion & Fitness in Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Health shares steps with apps a little after you walk; the buddy catches up when you next open the app.

Why is the buddy slower on some stretches?

The trail is the real one. Climbs, thin air near the Dolma La pass, a heavy pack, cold or thirst all slow it down. Look after it in the Buddy and Pack tabs.

I can't walk today.

Tap the play button at the foot of the mountain and the buddy walks on by itself while you watch, from behind or from above.

Your walk and iCloud

Will my walk move to a new iPhone?

Yes, if you are signed in to iCloud. Sign in with the same Apple Account on the new iPhone and open WalkBuddy: it finds your walk.

I have two iPhones.

Your buddy walks on one iPhone at a time. The other can look on, and Walk here moves the walk to it.

Credits and lamps

How do I get credits?

Every new player gets 5. Each kora you complete earns more, and you can buy packs in the app.

What do lamps do?

A lamp burns on the trail for a day, a week or a month. Lamps carry the tradition's meaning, but they change nothing in the walk and nothing outside the app: no real lamp is lit and no money goes to any monastery or charity.

Can other walkers see my lamps?

Yes, without your name, unless you turn off Show my lamps to other walkers on the Koras tab. Your dedication is seen only by you.

My credits are missing after changing iPhone.

Credits are kept in your iCloud with your walk. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud is on for WalkBuddy, then open the app and wait a moment.

Refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

How do I delete everything?

Koras > About and settings > Your data > Delete everything. It deletes your walk, lamps and credits, including bought credits, on this iPhone and in iCloud. Your steps in Apple Health are not touched.
